An individual can influence a community because person's success or failure helps shape the community's values. Unoka was considered "an ill fated man. He had a bad chi or personal god". His terrible example for the tribe's youth teaches later generations to work hard and not express yourself. A community can influence an individual because the values of the society around a person are thrust upon them. The tribe's values effect Okonkwo because he does everything to follow these values. Many people in the tribe's society are controlled by these values, but few lively souls dare to push the boundaries of society.
